The third synchronised survey for Nilgiri Tahr population estimation in Tamil Nadu and adjoining landscapes was conducted, estimating the population at 1364 in Tamil Nadu, a 4.68% increase from the previous year. The report was released on World Environment Day.
Tamil Nadu Integrated Bird Census 2025-2026
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department, as part of its annual state-level integrated bird census initiated in 2023 to monitor and strengthen conservation plans for bird diversity, conducted the Integrated Wetland Bird Census on December 27 and 28, 2025, and the Integrated Terrestrial Bird Census on February 14 and 15, 2026, with active participation from forest officials, bird experts, volunteers, and birdwatchers.
Tamil Nadu Synchronised Bird Survey 2025–2026
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department conducted state-wide synchronised bird surveys (wetland and terrestrial) in 2025-2026 to monitor avifaunal diversity, recording numerous species and highlighting the importance of the state's habitats. The reports were released on World Environment Day 2026.
