Water Release from Thamirabarani Reservoirs for Kar Season Cultivation
The Tamil Nadu Government has ordered the release of water from Papanasam, Servalar, and Manimuthar reservoirs for 121 days to benefit 36,521 acres for 'Kar' season cultivation in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts.

Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Thiru R. Vinoth announces that interested Farmer Producer Organizations/Cluster Federations/Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies/individuals can receive a subsidy of up to 25 lakh rupees for setting up pulse processing units under the "Mission for Self-sufficiency in Pulses".
To boost production of black gram, green gram, red gram, and cowpea and achieve self-sufficiency in pulses, the "Mission for Self-sufficiency in Pulses" is being implemented in Tamil Nadu by the Department of Agriculture with central and state contributions from the 2025-26 financial year. Under this scheme, a 33% subsidy, up to 25 lakh rupees, will be provided in the 2026-27 financial year for establishing pulse processing units to add value to the produced pulses.

The government has ordered the release of water from Pechiparai, Perunchani, Chittar I and II dams for Kothaiyaru and Pattanankal irrigation in Kanyakumari district from June 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
